Museum “Walter Plaetinck – Zuidgasthuishoeve”, has a wide collection of antique machinary and utentils from bakeries during the 20th century. Walter Plaetinck was the one to start this collection. As a baker’s son and a sales representative for edible bakery products, he realized how old objects were disappearing because of modernisation.
The collection is exhibited in the “ Zuidgasthuishoeve”, a lovely 17th century farm. You’re welcomed in the former dwelling-house, where you can learn everything about chocolate, ice-cream… The cafeteria used to be the stable. But the barn, where you see how bread used to be baked, is the most impressive building.
The domain offers several activities for children.
Museum is an independent non- profit association, acknowledged by the Flemish Government and granted by the city and county council.
